Star Kids Academy's Extended Care Courses
Star Kids Academy offers a variety of 'Extended Care' classes that give students a unique experience in learning through hands on activities and course curriculum that teaches relevant skills as well as providing a supportive platform for the creation process. Classes vary in subject matter from sport activities and maker space artistic engineering to modern board gaming, literature, and music. Star Kids Academy not only uses a method and approach to learning that supports and encourages the creation process, but also provides students with the most current educational tools and resources available so that they can experience success within each course.

Homework Help
Our 'Homework Help' period is a staff assisted question based approach to helping students get through their homework in a timely fashion. Our staff helps students solve problems and challenges by asking questions to answer questions with the intention to guide students into a space where they can figure out the answers themselves. Star Kids staff may also use real world examples to help students better understand the 'why's' of their homework questions in order to better motivate students with their understanding of the material.
Active Life
Star Kids Academy's Active Life Course, gives students a break from learning with a variety of activities aimed to bring physical activity into their day. Students will engage in a variety of indoor or outdoor activities dependent on weather and venue location including but not limited to; yoga, obstacle course, kid olympics, soccer, basketball, frisbee golf, and more...
Yoga
Star Kids Academy's Yoga program is a multi practice course in yoga for students age 5-12. Star Kids Yoga infuses various practices such as Hatha, Vinyasa, and Restorative Yoga focusing on body alignment, breathing techniques, and movement. This class is geared towards creating an uplifting and positive experience in yoga for beginning elementary students.
Starchitects
Starchitects is a 'Makerspace' class in Art, Architecture and Engineering. The course will give students a variety of ways to use various mediums such as paint and canvas, recycled materials and supplies, Strawbees, paper, clay, and more to create real world useful and practical applications incorporated with art. All art lessons are centered around a relevant theme and each theme changes throughout the course.
Modern Board Game
The Modern Board Game Course is a course in resource management, mathematics, tactic and strategy, dexterity, abstract gaming, cooperative and competitive game play. Students will play various modern board games from Hive, Chess, Yinsh, Go, Stone Age, Flashpoint Fire Rescue, Krosmaster Arena, Alien Frontiers, and more. The games used in this course are taught in a way that students can clearly understand game rules, point systems, game play and game flow, as well as gaming, teamwork and sportsmanship etiquette.
Story Time
This class is a fun educational experience in literature and grammar within the art of storytelling. Students will experience up to 2 fun story sessions per week and engage in the analysis and discussion of each story, vocabulary and spelling, grammar, subtext, character analysis, and more. Instructors are experienced in drama and theater and bring unique characterizations to each story with acting as well as the use of puppet characters.
Rhythm and Sound
Star Kids Academy's 'Rhythm and Sound' course is a course in Ethnomusicology as well as a course in reading and writing sheet music rhythms and dynamics. Students will learn about non-western musical instruments from around the world, where they come from, how they are used and how to play them, as well as engage in group musical ensembles focused on rhythm, frequency, timbre, tone, accents, and dynamics. This course is perfect for any students who are already taking a traditional music class in school or private as this class will further develop students understanding of rhythm and sound.
Chess
Star Kids Academy's Competitive Chess Course is offered as a class within our 'Extended Care' program. This course is specifically designed to bring students into an environment that prepares students for chess competition as well as fundamental to advanced strategies to perform better within the competition setting, including game tactics and strategies, openings and endgame play within the rules of the chess competition.
Laser Tag Hero
This course is a tactical outdoor gaming class using laser tag equipment. Students will engage in various outdoor immersion games including but not limited to ‘teams’, ‘free for all’, ‘Capture The Flag’, ‘Elimination’, ‘Medic’, ‘Battlefield’, and more. Students will learn game rules, teamwork, sportsmanship, and exercise. Students will be running so shoes are mandatory for participation.
Movie Creation
This class is a fun and educational experience in the fundamentals and production of storytelling. Students will learn the basic structure of the ‘Hero’s Journey’, and most if not all characters in film and book follow a similar path of the Hero. Students will learn to film short skits, puppet story telling, recording foley (sound effects), story development and creation, character development and improvisation.
